Does ByeBed work without the internet?
Yes, mostly. Alarms ring without internet, and math, push-ups, shake and the four mini-games work offline. The six photo missions and the drawing mission need a connection, because the picture is checked by Google's Gemini AI. The very first launch also needs internet to set the app up.
Offline by default
Alarms, math, push-ups (counted by the camera, fully on-device), shake and the four mini-games (bird hop, maze, memory, memory pairs) need no internet. Your alarms ring whether or not you're connected. Only the very first launch needs a connection, to set the app up.
Photo and drawing missions
The six photo missions (random object, sky, made bed, your chosen object, grass, pill) and the drawing mission send one image to a Cloudflare Worker that relays it to Google Gemini for a one-time check. Without a connection the check can't run: a photo mission goes back to its ready screen so you can try again, and the drawing mission shows a 'check your connection' error. If you often wake up without signal, pick an offline mission.
Privacy
ByeBed's server does not store the photos and drawings it relays for checking. See the privacy policy for details.
