How does ByeBed force you out of bed?

ByeBed has no snooze button. When the alarm rings, tapping Stop opens a mission: math, push-ups, a photo, a drawing and more. Leave without finishing it and the alarm rings again, up to 10 times over 15 minutes.

No snooze, no easy escape

Alarms are scheduled with Apple's AlarmKit, so they ring even on silent and in Do Not Disturb. There is no snooze. The alarm's Stop button opens the mission you chose; close it without finishing and the alarm rings again a minute later, then again, for 15 minutes (10 re-rings). The only shortcut is an emergency skip, limited to 2 a month, for alarms set by mistake.

Variety of missions

14 missions in the current version (1.7.3): math typed on a keypad, shake (30 shakes), push-ups counted by the camera on your phone (Apple Vision), drawing, four mini-games (bird hop, maze, memory sequence, memory pairs) and six photo missions (a random object, the sky, your made bed, an object you chose, grass, your pill). Each alarm has a difficulty, Easy, Normal or Hard: for example 3, 4 or 6 math problems, or 5, 10 or 20 push-ups.

The science

Researchers have not yet found a reliable way to switch off sleep inertia right after waking (Hilditch and McHill, 2019). What a mission does is simpler: it gets you up and moving at the first alarm, and it removes the snooze button, the reward that keeps the snooze habit going.
